Welcome to my creative world
Growing up in Northern-East Poland, art was always a part of my life. Since I was a child, sketching and creating was my favourite thing to do, I took my pencils and paper whenever I went.
I moved to the UK in 2012 never considering art as my future career. I was unsure what I wanted to do, working different jobs, learning the language, and raising my two sons.
I graduated from art school as a weaver and tapestry technician back in Poland (college equivalent, where I learned basics about using colours and composition, bit of photography and design and other forms of creative expression. Yet, painting never quite clicked for me, I was continuously skipping classes where we had to use paints. It wasn’t until the lockdown of 2020 when I discovered watercolours, seeking a medium that would allow me to get back to work whenever I wanted.
Watercolours offered me flexibility I needed at the time. I used to work with acrylic or oils when I was painting, but too short or too long drying time made me discouraged every time I started painting process. I got bored quickly and hardly ever finish any of the pieces I have started. Watching watercolour YouTube tutorials and joining few Facebook groups, I practiced my skills, eventually developing my own style that combines watercolours with wax-based coloured pencils. This combination allows me to paint details and textures adding crisp edges to my watercolor compositions.
From beginner I grew to becoming supporting mentor on few groups I joined back in 2020. I was painting mostly portraits, flowers, and animals but I quickly run off inspiring photographs I could use, and I felt an urge to develop something that feels unique to me.
My journey took an unexpected turn when I rediscovered still life, a subject that had been a pure nightmare for me during my school days. There was something captivating about objects composition set on a table, I decided to redefine traditional composition a bit. I found a photo of coffee and some biscuits on the table taken exactly from above and that was it! My first painting is a set of few different photos put together creating Christmas table that took me over a month to complete.
Since then, I started taking my own photos setting my own tables to paint them. Bowls of fruits, vegetables, cakes – experimenting with different lighting made my artistic journey pure fun. Every day for me is an opportunity for creativity, whether through painting or “being creative” in many different ways.
